you know you're obsessed with your fandom when you figure out how to change your lj layout and pics to huddyness... :)
came home for halloween, ended up taking my sisters trick or treating. That was fun, the three of us. Our neighbor across the street was hilarious. He was sitting on a bench in front of his house and was dressed all bloody. He had a REAL SAW and he asked them, "mind if I borrow an arm or a leg?" In a creepy voice. Alexa loves halloween, so she went for it. Poor Mely got so creeped out, she wouldn't get closer than 3 feet to him. Finally he crnked up his saw, lunged up at her and dropped a candy in her basket. She was so creeped out.
Mely dressed up as Dorothy, complete with braids and red shoes. Alexa was Sally from the nightmare before christmas. She made her dress! She declared a week ago that because she watches Project Runway, she can sew er dress. Mom and I laughed a little at that. Well, she proved us wrong! It turned out really cute too. I drew stitches on her arms and legs. :)

Gawd, university keeps you busy...
especially when you're on the quarter system. I just had midterms last week. I'm actually Liking my math class. Which is something that has not happened since eighth grade. But my professor is getting me into it. I like it. Com 204 i.e. debate is good too, in terms of professors. The class itself is not something that I will ever persue a career in. I don't function very well in arguing and researching and the like. We're discussing very controversial stuff too. Me and a classmate have been partnered to debate this : Abortion helps decrease the number of single parent families living in poverty. It's going to be interesting to say the least. My Mechanical engineering orientation class is fun. Rather easy in terms of projects, the teacher is pretty cool too. But CHEMISTRY!!!!!! ARGH!!!!!! LAbs not bad, I can handle lab. But LECTURE!!!! My professor is EVIL!!!! quizzes every week. two midterms. both of which are a strict time limit that is nowhere near enough to complete the amount of questions that he puts on there!! I'm in a study group with Kevin and Angie and still its not helping as well as I would like it to be. NEVER AGAIN will I take this guy for ANY class!!!!!
Happier stuff:
Made lots of friends so far. The vast majority are boys, with the exception of Angie, Miesha, and Cassie. Me and the boys are all a bunch of nerds (engineering majors). Stayed at Palmitas dorm last night until 1 in the morning. We were watching red vs blue and playing PS3. Chris is the reigning champ in that game. My dorm room has been made pretty. I lofted my bed to make more space. I'm in a double and my roommate drives me up the wall sometimes. She is very sociable and is constantly dragging her friends in here to laugh and talk loudly while I'm studying. So sometimes I end up leaving for peace and quiet. I hope that after a year of living with her I don't end up talking like her. She's gheto . Speaks in slang and curse words a lot while listening to rap/hip hop music. Business major. Not my style at all. It doesn't help that she's more than a year younger than me as well. But I'm trying to get into the suites soon. Hopefully that will work out. Today there was a club fair that Kevin, Sarr, David and I went down to. I'M TOTALLY GOING TO DO ROBOTICS!!!! It sounds so much fun!! And it'll look good on a future resume to have hands on experience. :)
I'm no longer a tv addict. It's sad but true. The only thing I watch is House on Monday night, and then I have to fight Ish for the tv because he likes to watch monday night football. But I think it's a good thing. I don't know if I could keep up with my classes if I blew off my homework to watch tv. So its all good. Now I'm paying more attention to nature. As cheesy as that sounds, its the truth. There's a duck pond in front of my dorm that I like to sit by and feed the ducks muffins. What do ducks normally eat?? They like it, in any case. I already have a favorite :)
My advisor over here is cool to. He's the department head actually, because I'm in the four year pledge. A program over here that basically means you're promising to be out of here in 4 years. 198 units, 4 years. God I hope I can make it. You're only allowed out for 'serious and compelling reasons' i.e. you get hit by a bus and can't attend classes for a full quarter or something equally drastic.
Other cool stuff: I watched in amazement as Tommy solved a 5x5x5 rubiks cube in three minutes before dinner one night. It was AMAZING! I can only do the 3x3x3. I want one now. :)
All right, back to my math homework... Gotta get it done because I'm Going Home Tomorrow!!!! ^____^ I mis my sisters a lot, so we're going to goof off all Friday afternoon and the weekend! :)

FIRST DAY AT CAL POLY!!!!!!!!!!
Moved in today. Got here around ten in the morning and then my parents and my little sisters helped me move in. I met my roomate. Adoni. She's a business major. We're getting along okay so far. We'll see how it goes. So far she's been glued to her phone.
I'm not as homesick as I thought I'd be. Maybe because I've been getting used to the idea for the past six months. Or it hasn't hit me yet, I'll give it a couple days. The foods okay here. Not bad, but not my mama's cooking either. I want her tacos.
I need to add my math class tomorow. I have an appointment at 4:30. And I need to open a checking account over here. First time I'll be doing that. It's kinda hitting me that I'm an adult now. I'll be 19 next week. They've been laying it on thick over here that no one's watching your back anymore, your parents are gone and it's up to you to not screw it up by drinking or doing drugs or something else that you're not supposed to be doing.
The walls are bare. It's kinda weird. I'm used to being in my room with all my drawings hanging on all the walls. I'm going to have to do something about that.
House premieres tomorrow night. I already found the tv over here so that where I'll be at eight. Hoping tomorrow goes down okay.

And of course everytime I get stressed my immune system takes a nosedive. Nothing to serious, when my relatives came over this past weekend they brought germs with them, so now I have a cold. But I've been keeping on top of it so far, here's to hoping it doesn't turn into bronchitis again :)
Anybody out there like tennis? I've been watching the U.S. Open, and tonights match with Federer was amazing! I hope he wins in the finals ^_____^
There isn't any picture with this vid, but the music is gorgeous. I keep playing it over and over. I love a lot of piano music, but this is definitely one of my favorites.

kinda excited right now. I've been placed in a double room at Cal Poly, which is what I originally wanted And its right in front of the duck pond :D I've already been in contact with my new roomate (I say new cause before I was in a triple) Her name's Adoni. I've been oil painting all day today This is Alexa, my lil sis :) Came out pretty darn good for the first time I've ever painted a person. I've done colored pencil and chalk pastel, but oil paint is certainly harder. I based it off the picture I took of her when I was in my digital photography class. It has always been one of my favorites. I want to paint Mely too, but I need to go to Michael's and get some more canvas. I only have 16x20's right now. This one's 11x14. Kevin and I still keep in touch. We're talking about him coming over before school starts. We're going to go to a nearby park and shoot a sugar rocket or two :) If I ever get away with it I'll post photos *fingers crossed* -Marissa

Cal Poly Orientation finished yesterday. Two days long, but I'm registered for my classes in the fall (also picked up my Calc 2 book, which is THICK), and I've met some really cool people. It really hit me yesterday that mechnical engineering is not a major that girls usually go into. What happened was everyone was divided into different groups by major. There were about a dozen boys in my group, I was the ONLY GIRL. That was strange, I mean I knew engineering isn't something girls normally go into, especially mechanical, but I thought there would be one other girl besides me. I ended up becoming really good friends with Kevin, he's cool. The second day we ended up touring the campus and for that we were paired with another mechanical engineering group. This one was led by a girl, Nicole I think her name was, and her entire group was boys. So now, excluding the orientation leaders we totalled 25 and I was STILL the only girl. Talk about disconcerting. I did meet a girl in the lunch line who's in civil engineering, she has one other girl in her group.
So now I feel like I should kick all their asses in class, be the best in the class. This was though only a portion of the total class. They had an earlier orientation date in late July, so I'm hoping there's another girl in that mechnical engineering group. We got the chance to be introduced to a bunch of clubs, they'll be out in force the first two weeks of school, I'm already planning on joining the Society of Women Engineers, I'm thinking about a Catholic one too. I don't want to overfill my plate though, especially since I'll be on the quarter system and everythings going to whiz by probably way to fast.
Orientation overall was fun though, met some new friends, and saw Billy, (Billy the Bronco, he's the mascot) He's cool, and energetic! The whole building was taught the fight song for school spirit. I ended up missing the last day of tennis class to go to orientation, but it was totally worth it.
Totally unrelated, my mom got me Adobe Photoshop Elements 7 today! I've already played with it, I'm going to have fun with what is left of my summer :)

Been having fun :) Aimee's birthday party was this past Saturday, she's nine. It was great because the whole family (mom's side) got together. Unfortunately, this included Katie and her parents, but technically they're blood related so... on a happier note I got to see m other cousins, it was at Irvine Park, we took a train ride in the beginning, I was with Aimee and Alyssa. We did it because Andy is enamored with trains right now, Thomas is his ultimate thing right now. My aunt, as always, had a bunch of activities planned for us to do. It was HOT so first up was hot potato with water balloons on a timer. Alexa won that round. Later on though it got cooler, so all our moms said no more waterballoons, just as we were getting ready for the waterballoon fight. Larry (my uncle) stepped in and said, aim at me only. The whole tub was filled with waterballoons so he had 5 kids and 2 toddlers chasing him with waterballoons. I've never really known him that well, partly because I only see him once a year max, but I realized that he's pretty cool. Poor guy got soaked :) Pinata was last up, lollipops have always been one of my favorites :) Second only to my swiss milk chocolate truffles (no those weren't in there) Friday is likely to be my last day volunteering at the library because August 4th and 5th I'm going to Cal Poly's orientation. My mom and I have been dorm shopping lately. Today's highlight: I beat my coach in tennis class. XD 3-2, it was right at the end of class, we would have continued but we ran out of time. 12 til 2 in eighty-some degree weather. I was playing doubles with Jeff as my partner, Coach's partner was Helen. It was fun ^_^ In the world of art, or in this case, fanart, my latest and greatest: both have been done in colored pencil this one's a falcon I think, might be another hawk :) and this one's a duckling ^-^

...not sure it counts yet though cause my Mom was with me, so was my little sis. I was supposed to be at tennis class and the three of us went to see The Proposal. It was hilarious, I loved it! We were waiting for Mely's placement test for high school to begin, and we had over an hour to kill. The movie was longer than we thought though, and we ended up being late to Mely's appointment too, but it turned out okay :)
Its not often we get to be so spontaneous and ignore the world for a while, I had fun :)
GRADUATION IS TOMORROW!!!!!!!!!!
Practice was this morning, took a full two hours in the hot sun, but I met up with Daniel for a bit, haven't seen him since physics lab last year. Tomorrow's going to be busy. My Mom's taking me to have my senior pictures done in the morning in my cap and gown and everthing. I've got an NHS thing that I'll be wearing in addition. The gown is burgandy, which surprisingly doesn't look that bad on me :) Then the real deal goes down at 7, but I have to be there by 6 with the rest of the graduates. Hope everything goes smoothly.

I had an eye doctor appointment today, and holy sh*t my eyeballs are healing!!!!! I've been in glasses since the fourth grade, like clockwork every 6 months they would get worse. This was the first time I made it to a year and I was seeing blurry because there was too much power in my glasses! I've got relatives that had the 6 month thing happen as they were growing up, and then they went backwards to the point that now they hardly ever wear glasses anymore. Please God. *fingers crossed* My House fic is finally up, I've got two chapters up so far. Here---> www.fanfiction.net/s/5138052/1/Find_Someone_You_TrustI'm fiddling a little bit with the end of chapter three, I'm not sure if I should add a little more or not, but regardless I'm going to try to wrap it up tomorrow sometime. :) Finally created a deviantart account, posted all the stuff I've been hoarding lately. Lots of photography, my latest oil painting, a few traditional art pieces I haven't posted here yet. Here---> akemi183.deviantart.com/
