you know you're obsessed with your fandom when you figure out how to change your lj layout and pics to huddyness... :)

came home for halloween, ended up taking my sisters trick or treating. That was fun, the three of us. Our neighbor across the street was hilarious. He was sitting on a bench in front of his house and was dressed all bloody. He had a REAL SAW and he asked them, "mind if I borrow an arm or a leg?" In a creepy voice. Alexa loves halloween, so she went for it. Poor Mely got so creeped out, she wouldn't get closer than 3 feet to him. Finally he crnked up his saw, lunged up at her and dropped a candy in her basket. She was so creeped out.

Mely dressed up as Dorothy, complete with braids and red shoes. Alexa was Sally from the nightmare before christmas. She made her dress! She declared a week ago that because she watches Project Runway, she can sew er dress. Mom and I laughed a little at that. Well, she proved us wrong! It turned out really cute too. I drew stitches on her arms and legs. :)

Gawd, university keeps you busy...

especially when you're on the quarter system. I just had midterms last week. I'm actually Liking my math class. Which is something that has not happened since eighth grade. But my professor is getting me into it. I like it.
Com 204 i.e. debate is good too, in terms of professors. The class itself is not something that I will ever persue a career in. I don't function very well in arguing and researching and the like. We're discussing very controversial stuff too. Me and a classmate have been partnered to debate this : Abortion helps decrease the number of single parent families living in poverty.
It's going to be interesting to say the least.
My Mechanical engineering orientation class is fun. Rather easy in terms of projects, the teacher is pretty cool too.
But CHEMISTRY!!!!!!
ARGH!!!!!!
LAbs not bad, I can handle lab. But LECTURE!!!! My professor is EVIL!!!! quizzes every week. two midterms. both of which are a strict time limit that is nowhere near enough to complete the amount of questions that he puts on there!! I'm in a study group with Kevin and Angie and still its not helping as well as I would like it to be. NEVER AGAIN will I take this guy for ANY class!!!!!

Happier stuff:

Made lots of friends so far. The vast majority are boys, with the exception of Angie, Miesha, and Cassie. Me and the boys are all a bunch of nerds (engineering majors). Stayed at Palmitas dorm last night until 1 in the morning. We were watching red vs blue and playing PS3. Chris is the reigning champ in that game.
My dorm room has been made pretty. I lofted my bed to make more space. I'm in a double and my roommate drives me up the wall sometimes. She is very sociable and is constantly dragging her friends in here to laugh and talk loudly while I'm studying. So sometimes I end up leaving for peace and quiet. I hope that after a year of living with her I don't end up talking like her. She's <strike>gheto</strike> . Speaks in slang and curse words a lot while listening to rap/hip hop music. Business major. Not my style at all. It doesn't help that she's more than a year younger than me as well. But I'm trying to get into the suites soon. Hopefully that will work out.
Today there was a club fair that Kevin, Sarr, David and I went down to. I'M TOTALLY GOING TO DO ROBOTICS!!!! It sounds so much fun!! And it'll look good on a future resume to have hands on experience. :)

I'm no longer a tv addict.
It's sad but true.
The only thing I watch is House on Monday night, and then I have to fight Ish for the tv because he likes to watch monday night football. But I think it's a good thing. I don't know if I could keep up with my classes if I blew off my homework to watch tv. So its all good. Now I'm paying more attention to nature. As cheesy as that sounds, its the truth. There's a duck pond in front of my dorm that I like to sit by and feed the ducks muffins. What do ducks normally eat?? They like it, in any case. I already have a favorite :)

My advisor over here is cool to. He's the department head actually, because I'm in the four year pledge. A program over here that basically means you're promising to be out of here in 4 years. 198 units, 4 years. God I hope I can make it. You're only allowed out for 'serious and compelling reasons' i.e. you get hit by a bus and can't attend classes for a full quarter or something equally drastic.

Other cool stuff: I watched in amazement as Tommy solved a 5x5x5 rubiks cube in three minutes before dinner one night. It was AMAZING! I can only do the 3x3x3. I want one now. :)

All right, back to my math homework... Gotta get it done because I'm Going Home Tomorrow!!!! ^____^
I mis my sisters a lot, so we're going to goof off all Friday afternoon and the weekend! :)

kinda excited right now.

I've been placed in a double room at Cal Poly, which is what I originally wanted And its right in front of the duck pond :D I've already been in contact with my new roomate (I say new cause before I was in a triple) Her name's Adoni.

I've been oil painting all day today

This is Alexa, my lil sis :)
Came out pretty darn good for the first time I've ever painted a person. I've done colored pencil and chalk pastel, but oil paint is certainly harder. I based it off the picture I took of her when I was in my digital photography class. It has always been one of my favorites.
I want to paint Mely too, but I need to go to Michael's and get some more canvas. I only have 16x20's right now. This one's 11x14.

Kevin and I still keep in touch. We're talking about him coming over before school starts. We're going to go to a nearby park and shoot a sugar rocket or two :)
If I ever get away with it I'll post photos *fingers crossed*

-Marissa

Cal Poly

Cal Poly Orientation finished yesterday. Two days long, but I'm registered for my classes in the fall (also picked up my Calc 2 book, which is THICK), and I've met some really cool people. It really hit me yesterday that mechnical engineering is not a major that girls usually go into. What happened was everyone was divided into different groups by major. There were about a dozen boys in my group, I was the ONLY GIRL. That was strange, I mean I knew engineering isn't something girls normally go into, especially mechanical, but I thought there would be one other girl besides me. I ended up becoming really good friends with Kevin, he's cool. The second day we ended up touring the campus and for that we were paired with another mechanical engineering group. This one was led by a girl, Nicole I think her name was, and her entire group was boys. So now, excluding the orientation leaders we totalled 25 and I was STILL the only girl. Talk about disconcerting. I did meet a girl in the lunch line who's in civil engineering, she has one other girl in her group.

So now I feel like I should kick all their asses in class, be the best in the class. This was though only a portion of the total class. They had an earlier orientation date in late July, so I'm hoping there's another girl in that mechnical engineering group. We got the chance to be introduced to a bunch of clubs, they'll be out in force the first two weeks of school, I'm already planning on joining the Society of Women Engineers, I'm thinking about a Catholic one too. I don't want to overfill my plate though, especially since I'll be on the quarter system and everythings going to whiz by probably way to fast.

Orientation overall was fun though, met some new friends, and saw Billy, (Billy the Bronco, he's the mascot) He's cool, and energetic! The whole building was taught the fight song for school spirit. I ended up missing the last day of tennis class to go to orientation, but it was totally worth it.

Totally unrelated, my mom got me Adobe Photoshop Elements 7 today! I've already played with it, I'm going to have fun with what is left of my summer :)

Been having fun :) Aimee's birthday party was this past Saturday, she's nine. It was great because the whole family (mom's side) got together. Unfortunately, this included Katie and her parents, but technically they're blood related so... on a happier note I got to see m other cousins, it was at Irvine Park, we took a train ride in the beginning, I was with Aimee and Alyssa. We did it because Andy is enamored with trains right now, Thomas is his ultimate thing right now. My aunt, as always, had a bunch of activities planned for us to do. It was HOT so first up was hot potato with water balloons on a timer. Alexa won that round. Later on though it got cooler, so all our moms said no more waterballoons, just as we were getting ready for the waterballoon fight. Larry (my uncle) stepped in and said, aim at me only. The whole tub was filled with waterballoons so he had 5 kids and 2 toddlers chasing him with waterballoons. I've never really known him that well, partly because I only see him once a year max, but I realized that he's pretty cool. Poor guy got soaked :) Pinata was last up, lollipops have always been one of my favorites :) Second only to my swiss milk chocolate truffles (no those weren't in there)

Friday is likely to be my last day volunteering at the library because August 4th and 5th I'm going to Cal Poly's orientation. My mom and I have been dorm shopping lately.

Today's highlight: I beat my coach in tennis class. XD
3-2, it was right at the end of class, we would have continued but we ran out of time. 12 til 2 in eighty-some degree weather. I was playing doubles with Jeff as my partner, Coach's partner was Helen. It was fun ^_^

In the world of art, or in this case, fanart, my latest and greatest:
both have been done in colored pencil

this one's a falcon I think, might be another hawk :)

and this one's a duckling ^-^
...not sure it counts yet though cause my Mom was with me, so was my little sis. I was supposed to be at tennis class and the three of us went to see The Proposal. It was hilarious, I loved it! We were waiting for Mely's placement test for high school to begin, and we had over an hour to kill. The movie was longer than we thought though, and we ended up being late to Mely's appointment too, but it turned out okay :)

Its not often we get to be so spontaneous and ignore the world for a while, I had fun :)

GRADUATION IS TOMORROW!!!!!!!!!!

Practice was this morning, took a full two hours in the hot sun, but I met up with Daniel for a bit, haven't seen him since physics lab last year. Tomorrow's going to be busy. My Mom's taking me to have my senior pictures done in the morning in my cap and gown and everthing. I've got an NHS thing that I'll be wearing in addition. The gown is burgandy, which surprisingly doesn't look that bad on me :) Then the real deal goes down at 7, but I have to be there by 6 with the rest of the graduates. Hope everything goes smoothly.
I had an eye doctor appointment today, and holy sh*t my eyeballs are healing!!!!!
I've been in glasses since the fourth grade, like clockwork every 6 months they would get worse. This was the first time I made it to a year and I was seeing blurry because there was too much power in my glasses! I've got relatives that had the 6 month thing happen as they were growing up, and then they went backwards to the point that now they hardly ever wear glasses anymore. Please God. *fingers crossed*

My House fic is finally up, I've got two chapters up so far.
Here--->www.fanfiction.net/s/5138052/1/Find_Someone_You_Trust

I'm fiddling a little bit with the end of chapter three, I'm not sure if I should add a little more or not, but regardless I'm going to try to wrap it up tomorrow sometime. :)

Finally created a deviantart account, posted all the stuff I've been hoarding lately. Lots of photography, my latest oil painting, a few traditional art pieces I haven't posted here yet.
Here--->akemi183.deviantart.com/
Finals week freak out
Double dosage: test tomorrow and then the final on Thursday night for Calculus :S

Life is going to fast for me, I keep waiting for Peter Pan to turn up so we can go to Neverland. I took my math placement test at Cal Poly, which only serves to tell me that I'm graduating June 26th. Cap and gown have long since been ordered, the same thing with the little embelishments I get to add for being in the honor society. Mely is graduating from the eighth grade in June, before me.
My Mom and I met up with Mrs. K at Barnes and Noble last weekish. She's still awesome. That was when my Dad went to Utah for a business trip, he was gone for half the week, it was weird without him here.

I've been doing yoga lately, I actually like it, normally I hate excercising, but it's fun. I signed up for a summer tennis class at Palomar, starts in June. The reason to suddenly try to get in shape? Yes, summers coming, but the real reason is despite me being physically healthy, my insides are ten years older than they should be. I had blood work done recently and among a bunch of other things, my cholesterol is sky high, if it stays that way I'll have a heart attack when I'm barely 40.

I've applied for a summer job at my library, where I've been volunteering the past two years, I hope I get it, going to need the money for college.

We had an EARTHQUAKE last night!!!!!! 4.7 they're saying. I was watching House with my sisters when I thought someone was kicking the back of my chair, then I realized that no one was behind me, when it got stronger Alexa and Mely jumped up from their seats. My parents who were in the other living room talking PANICED!! My Mom and Mely have this thing with earthquakes, they freak them out. :) I like them, call me crazy, but if they're little ones, I'm fine with them. It lasted about ten seconds. :)

Alexa is three years old at heart, randomly she starts hopping from one foot to the other and says "We're going to Disneyland!!!"

I get a kick out of that :]

Well, my baby bird died late Wednesday night. It refused to eat, I'd fill a syringe with the baby bird food we got from Petco and it wouldn't open its beak. The times I practically forced the poor things mouth open to get a little food in it would throw it back up. It refused regular bird food, fruit, mealworms, seeds... my mom says that it was probably depressed from losing its mama. I buried him in the backyard.

More bad news, my aunt works at LAX and they're laying her off, they offered to let her keep her job but that would mean moving to Chicago of Washington D.C., and she wouldn't be able to take her kids with her. The other option is that they're offering severance pay and the option of being re-trained in something else, because the travel industry is not hiring. It's happening in mid May, I think the 18th.

Mely had her last performance last night, it was a musical on a version of the princess and the pea, called "Once Upon a Matress". The school really made it good, two hours with intermission, but it was really good, we all saw the Friday night performance, and yesterday I was filling in for my mom, working backstage, because she had to work. I was working stage right, it was kinda fun. Mely was crying last night though, this thing has been going on for the better part of the school year and now its over, I think she's going to miss it.

Aimee was so much fun to play with when she stayed over. She is VERY active though, a real bundle of energy, but then, aren't all eight year olds full of energy? Easter was interesting. Alexa refused to go to church, upset my mom. We had a BBQ, no egg hunt, Alexa was in a bad mood all day. So that was fun.

I visited the doctor recently when I caught bronchitis, and while I was there, my Mom insisted they draw blood and do a full work up. Lately the people on my Mom's side of the family have been dying, mainly from heart problems. My grandpa has no brothers and sisters anymore, I just recieved the news five minues ago that his cousin died from his fourth heart attack. Thankfully, my Mom's heart problems can be solved with a better diet and more excercise. I myself have started excercising, my cholesterol and triglycerides were through the roof for my age, so that was scary. I've taken up yoga, and I've decided to join Alexa when she does one of her cardio workouts, I've done a few already, hopefully I can get my numbers down fast.

I finished my website in class three weeks early, so now my teacher and I are going to be messing with Wix.com, its a really cool flash program to build another website. I am also completely done with my packets for the rest of the year with my regular teacher. I'm almost all set to graduate in June, kinda excited. My mom keeps asking me what I want to do for my graduation. Nobody in the family has ever graduated from high school with honors and then gone straight to college, but I don't know what to do, I'm more preoccupied with my other dilemma. Remember I decided to attend Cal Poly? Well, my Dad wants me to go to UCSD. Here's the catch, they never take freshman straight out of high school, but they've admitted me into a program where I would stay at my community college for about another year to get some extra credits in and maintain a 3.0 GPA, it would only take me a year even though its 60 units because I've already done a lot of them during high school. So then after I finish I would then go to UCSD as a transfer. I don't know what to do, it causing knots in my neck between choosing to go the Cal Poly, where I've paid my $100 admittance fee, and set up housing, and it's where my mom wants me to go, and going to UCSD, which is a heck of a lot closer to home and its where my dad wants me to go. My mom has no objections to either school though, but she and I were talking and she said
"Well it's all about what you want your diploma to say, Cal Poly, or UCSD, its up to you."
My Dad went to Cal Poly and I guess he's remembering all the things that went down when he was there and he doesn't want me exposed to that, he's very protective of all three of us, but especially freaked about me leaving to go to college which is why I think he wants me to go to UCSD. What to do?

I've got a new baby! (bird that is)

We get home from Calculus around ten at night, last night we were pulling into the garage and my mom saw a bird on the floor. We have two cats, so we weren't sure if it was still alive because neither of them were around. I picked it up and brought it inside. It's legs were tangled up in a huge ball of dust, hair, and god knows what else it picked up from the garage. So I picked it off and dropper fed it some water, it was weak, I don't know how long it was in there. I set it up in my easter basket, it's flaps, but it can't fly just yet, so I've avoided putting it in a cage, its a sparrow I think.

It made it through the night, so I have since offered it seeds, but like last night its waiting for its mama to spit them in its mouth, so I've also tried fancy feast cat food (salmon not chicken!) , and a peach/apple smoothie, it ate a little bit of the smoothie. My mom's visisting the cardiologist right now, but on her way back home she's going to stop by petco and see if they have any wild baby bird food.

Over the past few years I've taken care of a few baby birds like this one, where they fall out of their nest and our cats try to pick them off. This particular birdie has a bit of dried blood under one of it's wings, but I think he'll heal, he sleeps a lot.

Isn't he cute!

Bronchitis.
I caught it two days before my Spring Break started, asthma I haven't had since the third grade was triggered within the week, antibiotics didn't get rid of it, so I'm now on an inhaler and more steroids to make sure my lungs keep working. And since the antibiotics didn't work, Friday I went back to the doctor and they gave me another to which I developed an allergic reaction to. So now I'm back on the first antibiotic that didn't work for a longer period of time. The only good news I'm hearing is that it'll be gone by Tuesday because of all the steroids being pumped into my lungs. Good thing to, because it's been something like a little over two weeks I've been sick now, I can't wait to stop coughing.

It's also another good reason to be getting better soon because my little cousin, Aimee will be spending part of her Spring Break with us, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday she'll be here. She's eight, but she's so cute I love playing with her and Alyssa, my other little cousin who's eight too. She'll be staying in my room, so later this week I'm going to do a massive cleaning in preparation. :) The only thing I'm worried about is if my sisters and I have enough energy to keep up with her, she's never slept over before, mainly we only get to see her for a few hours at my grandma's house once a month at max. My mom was reluctant to have her over, it was actually me who convinced my mom that it would be okay. Rumor has it among my other aunts that she can be spoiled about getting her way, but I can't see that, she's always played nice with us, so we shall see!

It's Official...

... I'm Going to Cal-Poly, Pomona.

I've sent in the money to reserve my spot, I'm getting financial aid/placement tests all wrapped up. I'll actually be exempt from those, because of my SAT scores being decent enough, but in April there will be a Calculus placement test to sign up for which will eventually take place in May I believe, I'm not sure how that's going to work, becuase I'm taking Calculus right now, I need to find out if the class will transfer and I can just take the next Calculus course over there. We'll see. :)

I went to my high school today for my Advanced Technology course. We're building a website, mine is for the Friends (the organization I volunteer for that helps fund the library) It's turned out pretty cool so far, I'm not done yet, but if you'd like to see it:

www.studentweb7.info/

I also picked up my National Honor Society pin I'll be wearing on my graduation. God that's coming fast. It's so pretty ^__^

There was a ceremony last week I think it was and we inducted all the new members, (had to miss a good bit of Calculus class to attend), it's when I was supposed to get it, because I made it to be a senior still in NHS, but for some reason Mrs. Rea only passed them out to the Trad kids, I'm ILP, so something got lost in the translation, but I have it now!

I have a Calculus test tonight, off to study :)

I am now able to post my artwork, so I thought I'd share some of my favorites with you guys.
First up is my pride and joy:

This is my first ever oil painting, I did it about a year and a half ago, but I still have a soft spot for it :)

This next one is more recent, along the lines of a couple of weeks ago, it's a chalk pastel of a flower in my front yard:

These next two are in pencil (colored and reg) they're my favorite medium to work with, partly because I grew up with a very clean mother who didn't want a child fingerpainting on the walls, and at least you can erase pencils :)

This one's Lauren Holly, "Jenny Shepard" from NCIS:

And this one I found a picture of on the internet, but it's the cutest little birdie:)

They're all hanging on the walls in my room. My room is actually a REALLY big collage :)

In other news: MIT ADMISSION DECISIONS!!!!!!!XD
I will know whether or not I got in on Saturday at 2PM.
*crossing all my fingers*
Visited Cal Poly, Pomona again this past Saturday. They were having an engineering event, and since I plan on being a mechanical engineer, my Dad and I drove up. It was a lot better than our last visit, for one thing, it wasn't nearly as hot. We toured the labs that I would be working in if I decided to attend, they're pretty cool.

Both of my sisters relapsed and got sicker this past week. What started as a simple cold became, for Mely: strep throat and an ear infection, Alexa's doctor gave her an allergy shot while she was getting better, which of course put her on the nebulizer and some serious pills to get her asthma to leave her alone. They are both still recovering now that they've been sick for something like two weeks now. I gave my cold to my mom, who got something like the flu (and we found out today that it looks like she has two kidney stones, one in each). My Dad was the only one who didn't have to visit the doctor.

I haven't put my reading list up in ages, so the most recent ones are:

Pride and Prejudice by: Jane Austen (currently reading)
Here Lies Arthur by: Philip Reeves
The President's Daughter by: Ellen Emerson White
White House Autumn by: Ellen Emerson White
Long Live the Queen by: Ellen Emerson White
The Compass Rose by: Gail Dayton
The Barbed Rose by: Gail Dayton
The Eternal Rose by: Gail Dayton
The Laughing Corpse by: Laurell K. Hamilton (reread)
Marked by: P.C. Cast & Kristen Cast
Betrayed by: P.C. Cast & Kristen Cast
Untamed by: P.C. Cast & Kristen Cast
The Dragon Heir by: Cinda Williams Chima
Graceling by: Kristen Cashore (reread)
I'm getting a laptop!!! FINALLY! My Mom and I built it on Dell and it'll be shipping out soon. I am paying for it of course, I've been saving. The real obstacle really was my Dad, who for him means its one more thing that says, 'yup, she's going to university'. But I'm so happy! It's going to be BLUE!

^__________________^

It seems like it was new years yesterday, and yet it's already February. So much has happened, so let me touch on the highlights. I aced physics class, passed precalculus (thank GOD!) I am now immersed in Calculus, we had our first exam this past Thursday, I got back home from class just now, but he didn't have our tests ready. I interviewed with Harvard in Jan. at UCSD, that one did not go as great as my MIT interview. He was a graduate in '68 as a lawyer so we couldn't talk about engineering like I did with my MIT interview. I just finished my advanced digital photography class, it's a lot harder to take pictures in a studio than you would think. But I've taken pictures of my Mom, Mely, Alexa, my teacher Mr. Owen, and Nikki. One of my pictures of my little sis, Mely has been framed and is now hanging over the mantle. :) I enrolled in Advanced Technology, the only elective course that is keeping me enrolled at high school, with the same teacher as digital photo. He's nice enough. It starts on the 17th. Alexa, my other little sis has been petitoned by both Cal-Tech and MIT to apply for their summer programs, so I've been helping her out with her essays as needed. We're still seeing the 3rd graders in Mrs. Baylon's class, actually have to be there bright and early tomorrow morning. The library booksale that happens every six months or so happened, so Alexa and I volunteered over there too, I love anything to do with the library :) Actually, this past Friday when I was getting ready to take my shift in the library bookstore something interesting happened.

I had 15 min before I had to start, so I headed over to the new books section, I found a book for my mom and this guy around my age is looking at the books nearby and I thought he wanted a chance to look at the new books too, so I went to the next shelf over and he followed me! Then he asks if I need help finding my books. Immediately I think, Oh! He's a volunteer like Ian! (Ian is a guy I used to know who would shelve books and help others find their books and stuff) Not that I saw a volunteer tag on him like the one I normally wear. So I politely say, "No thank you", but he lingers and I'm thinking what's with this guy? And he introduces himself as Maurice. We get to talking (softly cause we're still in the library) Eventually I realize that it's time for my shift and I'm trying to think of a polite way to leave, but everytime I take a step back he follows me until I'm semi-cornered. So finally I say I have to go and he asks me for my number and I panic! Nothing like this has ever happened to me before, sure I'm friends with the guys at my school, but I've never met someone who was actually interested in ME... So I start babbling something about how I'm sure my Dad wouldn't like that (He really wouldn't) and then I walk as calmly as I can to the check out line for my book so I can take my shift. My God, I was flattered and freaked out at the same time if that's at all possible.
I never got my three best drawings back from my high school from when they were entered in a contest, but I hung back up all the ones I had taken down to break the ice when I showed them to my college interviewers. It looks a lot like my room now, color everywhere, I think the lack of it was starting to depress me o.O

Tomorrow we're meeting up with Mrs. Kern at Barnes and Noble (I miss seeing her, she was an awesome teacher).

hee hee hee hee, it's so cute, my parents are going away for their 19th wedding anniversary this weekend :) It's a secret location, seriously, no one in the family knows, not even us, but we live near an airport my mother tells me, so they could be going anywhere. My Aunt Claudia is coming down on Friday to watch us while they're gone. I could watch my sisters, I'm old enough, but because they'll be gone a few days, my Mom wanted her to come down. She's fun though, so it'll be cool.

My Mom's making tamales right now... I'm off!

MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!

MY FIRST ADMISSION!!!!!!

Cal State Polytechnic, Pomona has accepted me, I will go to a university!!!!!!!

I was so scared that I wouldn't get in anywhere, especially with the economy the way it is, and funds being low for incoming students, but I got in!

Physics final was today, Precalculus was last night, I am now eagerly awaiting my final grades (for physics at least, I'm pretty sure I'm getting an A in that one, Precalculus is teetering on the edge, hope it lands safely).
